His family is . . . well, interesting—starting with his great-great-grandpa Berndt Thompson (who made a treaty with Indian chief Mickinock) and moving on to this mother (blow-drier of mice), his father (Wamml’s favorite), and his brother (dunker of chicks). Then there’s Wamml.
Wamml is a remarkable African gray parrot from lowly origins who attained a repertoire of "La Cucaracha," "Jesus Loves Me," and "the Battle Hymn of the Republic." When not singing, he babbles on with his avian neighbors, calls Michael by name, and says "Get the phone!" when it rings. Then there’s Puff, the iguana; Mr. Tasselhoff, a parakeet; Fluffy, the once-lonely goldfish; cockatiel Henrym and his spouse Cinnamon (who had babies in a punch bowl).
We learn still more about God from some fratricidal crickets, Kiwi the parakeet, a duck named Stupid, Miss Itchy (mother of Belladonna Chick), and two baby turtles, Smith and Wesson. You will be delighted by the people, pets, and family foibles that help Mike understand how God works in kids’ lives and how He feel about us. Like he says: "Some things in life are cool for a little while, but others last forever."
